Have you ever wondered why the area bounded by First St., Mrgr., O'Brien Highway and the river form a triangle? The answer is that the river was filled in a line to connect with the Prison Point Bridge, leaving the triangular outline. The canal was left unfilled and originally angled south following what is noe the main corridor of the Galleria Mall and Charles Park. Along the river the park created was called The Front.
