The Legler Branch is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and is named in honor of Henry Eduard Legler, the librarian who established the City's regional library system. Legler Branch was the first Regional Library in the Chicago Public Library system, serving the west side of the City.

Completely restored and renovated, the Legler Branch reopened to the public on August 2, 1993, with a mission to provide a cultural and educational foundation for the East and West Garfield communities.
