"Mackintosh" Style Lamp-Posts, Renfrew Street / Garnet Street / Scott Street
These lamp-posts are placed in the streets around Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Glasgow School Of Art building in Renfrew Street. They have delicate, pierced poles which look very like some of the decorative Art Nouveau ironwork which Mackintosh designed for the Art School building. You can see some of the original Mackintosh-designed ironwork on the railings around the Art School, in some of the stairwells, and the little "bird-cage" on the roof. The lamp-posts give passers-by a sense of being in a special place, and link past and present styles of Glaswegian design.
