Man arrested after forcing entry to unit, Earlville

A 33-year-old Edmonton man has been charged with burglary, wilful damage and assault occasioning bodily harm following an incident at a Herries Street residence on Sunday evening. Police allege just after 7.00pm the residents were at home when they noticed the man standing on the balcony. He was asked to leave and refused before damaging a barbeque and smashing his way into the unit. Police arrived soon after and whilst negotiating with the man he allegedly became involved in a scuffle with the resident and police, during which he allegedly bit the resident on the chest. He was subsequently restrained and removed from the scene. He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later today.
