Man arrested over violent assault, Palm Cove

Smithfield Detectives have charged a 36-year-old Palm Cove man after a violent assault at an Amphora Street unit on Sunday morning. It is alleged that the man was watching television with a couple at an adjoining unit shortly after midnight when he went to his unit before returning with a baseball bat and assaulting a 22-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman. It is further alleged that he then left, before returning a short time later and smashing windows at the front of the unit. The man was arrested and charged with entering a dwelling with intent, assault and wilful damage. He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later today.
