Man charged over theft of taxi cab, Redlynch

Police have charged a 31-year-old Redlynch man with several offences following an early morning cab journey on Sunday morning. It is alleged that the man and his partner entered the cab in the city and the man threatened the driver during the journey to Redlynch. It is further alleged that the man grabbed the steering wheel of the cab causing the vehicle to collide with a traffic island. The driver then stopped the vehicle and got out and it is alleged that the man then drove away in the cab before stopping a short distance away. The man was subsequently arrested and charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle; driving whilst under the influence of liquor and failing to supply a specimen of his breath for analysis. He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 15. QP1100467914
