The mission of the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum is to stimulate and preserve knowledge and appreciation of Mexican culture as it manifests itself in and outside of Mexico. To this end, the Museum sponsors special events and exhibits that exemplify the rich variety in visual and performing arts found in the Mexican culture; to develop a significant permanent collection of Mexican art; to encourage the professional development of Mexican artists; and to offer arts education programs.

The Museum has amassed more than 3,500 objects for its Permanent Collection. The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum is the only Latino museum accredited by the American Association of Museums and one of only a handful of museums of color in the country to receive accreditation. Artwork from the Permanent Collection can be enjoyed in the ongoing exhibition entitled Mexicanidad: Our Past Is Present.

The Museum's Performing Arts Department celebrates the vitality, diversity, and beauty that exist within the Mexican culture. Events are presented during two annual performing arts festivals. The Visual Arts Department presents exhibitions that display a broad spectrum of the arts, from pre-Cuauhtémoc to the avant-garde, from Mexico and the U.S. Mexican communities. In Tienda Tzintzuntzan, the beautiful craftwork born of the hands of Mexican artisans gives one a fuller appreciation of the Mexican artistic experience. Visitors can share in this by taking one of the superb crafts home.
