Monteau/Swiftwater Valley
Category: Abandoned Ski Areas
**February 2008**
Trails: The beginner ropetow slope is still kept perfectly clear, and I actually skied two runs on it on this trip! Nothing all that difficult (900' long, 160' vertical according to NELSAP). Upper mountain trails left to grow back to nature.
Lifts: The summit double chair was removed in the early 90's, but the ropetow on the beginner slope remains entirely intact, complete with old, musty rope still hung onto some of the towers and a large sketchy drive house at the top.
Facilities: Base lodge converted into very nice looking public hall. Old maintenance shacks now look to be used for storage.
Accessibility: It's now all public recreation land, open to all possible uses. Hence, me skiing it that day!
