Monument to Maternity
Category: Sculpture
The seven-metre high stainless steel sculpture in the form of a giant nappy pin, known as a 'Monument to Maternity' provides a striking focal point in the impressive landscaped Rottonrow Gardens gardens.
The sculpture, designed by Scottish artist George Wyllie marks the site where Glasgow's maternity hospital 'Rottenrow' once stood. The word 'Mhtpothta' is displayed on a plaque at the foot of the sculpture, which translates from ... to 'Maternity' or 'Motherhood' in English.
