Subject: minke whale
I was collecting some driftwood at the Whistle yesterday afternoon (May 30) and was pleasantly surprised by a MINKE WHALE very close to shore which surfaced once and was not seen (or heard) again. The sound of the blow or breath had reverberated from the cliffs which was why I had looked out to sea just as the minke dove. The whale was obviously travelling somewhere and no doubt had travelled around the point for its next breath. The tide rip was just starting to form on the flood and this is a common time for whales to check for prey.
There was also a bald eagle being chased by ravens when I first arrived.
