They are possibly developing nulcear weapons at the two reactors at the Yongbyon Nuclear Scientific Research Center, both are small power stations using Magnox techniques. The smaller (5MWe) was completed in 1986 and has since produced possibly 8,000 spent fuel elements. The large plant was started in 1984 but still isn't completely finished. The smaller plant produces enough nuclear material to make one bomb per year, and the larger could make ten per year.

On March 12, 1993 North Korea supposedly ended their plutonium program, but the US believes North Korea began an enriched uranium program, this information was publicized in October 2002. Also, in 2005 the Pakistani President Pervez admitted to having shared nuclear weapons plans/blueprints with North Korea.

Most recently, in March 2007 North Korea declared it would shut down its nuclear facilities and programs. On July 14 inspectors confirmed that their main facility was indeed shut down.
