Founded in 2000, ORA is a nonprofit organization with a dedicated volunteer team of scientists, lawyers, and educators working to protect the Ohio River, its tributaries, and river communities. ORF has 2 major operating programs: The Conservation Program (1) assists communities in protecting their riverfronts and quality of life, (2) comments on permitting and development activities in the watershed, and (3) promotes equal consideration of environmental protection and economic factors in watershed management. The Education Program through (1) events, (2) on-line resources, and (3) on-river education, seeks to provide information and promote a greater understanding of rivers and their importance to quality of life.
