People's Palace, Glasgow Green
The People's Palace is an important part of Glasgow's history. It holds collections of artefacts which document the city's working class history and culture. It was renovated during 1999, including the massive glasshouse to the south - The Winter Gardens.
In the grounds of the Palace there are many reminders of the city's past. The Sphinx has been damaged but has been salvaged from a building before it was demolished. The lamp-posts were once used on the streets of Glasgow. They are very decorative by today's standards, with beautiful casting and fine painting. The People's Palace is the best place to get a feel for the real social history of Glasgow, and a chance to see some important artefacts.
