Piotr Skrzynecki , one of Krakow icons , started a famous cabaret in 1956 in an underground cellar of a palace right on the Krakow Market Square. The place was known for its extraordinary atmosphere and relatively independent program often ridiculing the communist regime in beautiful songs and poems. He was generally loved by Cracovians who would recognise him from afar due to his very special attire and a hat as well as a friendly smile on his face. He would walk aqcross the Market Square and stop and talk to people.
Today his monument can be seen in front of the cellar and people stick a fresh rose in his hand.
