31-year-old Westcourt man was charged with serious assault on Saturday afternoon following the alleged assault of a Police officer. A 40-year-old Cairns Senior Sergeant was removing the man from the rear of a police vehicle at the Cairns watch house when the man allegedly spat in the officer’s face. He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later today.
