Police officer assaulted Cairns station

A 64-year-old Parramatta man allegedly assaulted a police officer in the Cairns Watchhouse yesterday afternoon after he was arrested for drink driving. The man allegedly struck the officer in the face causing an abrasion to the officer’s cheek when he was being lodged at the watchhouse. Police will allege that the man had a breath alcohol reading of .174 per cent. He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on the February 18 to answer charges of drink driving. contravening a requirement, stating a false name and assaulting police.
