Restorative Circles: restorative justice through engagement in Brazil

Restorative Circles were founded in 1996 by Dominic Barter, whose shock at the poverty and crime in Rio’s favelas drove him to talk to its residents and explore how he could help. Restorative Circles focus on engagement and understanding of the roots of the disagreement. His work with young people in schools has led to 50% reductions in referrals to youth courts in these areas.
