On May 22 the Rwandan Patriotic Forces capture the Kigali airport giving them a stronger stance in the region to set up for their victory. Meanwhile the United Nations continues to argue about sending troops to help bring peace to the region. The temporary fix that is decided upon sends 2,500 French troops on June 22, 1994 to create a safe area. However, there are not enough troops present to keep out rebels and thus Tutsi continue to be killed even in the supposed safe region.
