Review: Pros: Epic expert terrain complex that is well known as being some of the toughest in New England. Low uphill capacity means the snow stays fresher longer. Plus, they get more of it anyway from their location in the Rangeley Lakes region. Real nice community atmosphere. Very good and affordable prices.
Cons: The eternal problem with Maine in general: "You Can't get theya from heya" (ayuh). The lift setup is a bit different and makes it difficult to ski the 2,000' of vertical consistently. Low uphill capacity means lines can form at the main lifts, and (personal beef) they removed the high speed T-bar that served almost 1,000' of vertical on the expert complex!
The Verdict: Saddleback is a place that seems a bit lost in transition. Once a quiet (but good and challenging) ho-hum ski area stuck up in northern Maine, it's now seeing an influx of new upscale amenities and in the process seems to be losing much of the charm that it once had prior to the new ownership.
