5. Scotland Street School, 225 Scotland Street

This famous school, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and completed in 1906, is heavily glazed to let in lots of light to the classrooms. The two barrel-shaped structures are separate stairwells for boys and girls, as schools used to be segregated. Mackintosh also designed Glasgow School Of Art, and the House For An Art Lover in Bellahouston Park. Scotland Street School is now a museum.
