Sculpture By Lucy Baird, Rankine Building, University Of Glasgow, University Avenue
This abstract sculpture is made of stainless steel and features several overlapping, zigzagging panels. Stainless steel is a difficult material to work with. This intricate structure celebrates developments in engineering. It was made to mark the 150th anniversary of "The Regius Chair Of Civil Engineering & Mathematics", an important position within the University's prestigious Engineering department. A number of institutions helped fund and develop the sculpture, which was unveiled in 1990.
