A Cooktown police officer sustained abrasions and facial swelling as a result of an alleged assault at the Grassy Hill Lookout on Sunday night. Police attended a disturbance between two men at the location when they were allegedly threatened with a star picket by one of the men. The man allegedly struck an officer with the picket and punched him a number of times in the face before being restrained and taken into custody. A 29 year-old Rossville man is due to appear in the Cooktown Magistrates Court today charged with two counts of serious assault police, as well as resisting arrest and wilful exposure. The 29-year-old male officer sustained abrasions to his right forearm, a bleeding nose and swelling to one eye as a result of the incident.
