Sexual assault, Cairns City

Police are investigating an assault that occurred in the CBD early this morning. At about 1.30am a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man she had met earlier in the morning. The 22-year-old Cairns woman managed to flee from the man and was assisted by persons nearby. The man was last seen running in a south-easterly direction along Lake Street towards Shields Street. He is described as being of Indigenous appearance in his late teens, about 170cm tall with short black curly hair. He was wearing a dark coloured T shirt and dark trousers of unknown style.
