Sexual assault, Cairns North: Detectives are investigating an assault that occurred on the Cairns Esplanade in the early hours of Monday morning. A 31-year-old woman and her friend were running in a northerly direction along the esplanade pathway at about 5.45am when a male offender engaged them in a brief conversation. He then grabbed the woman inappropriately before fleeing in a southerly direction. The man is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, 180cms with a proportionate build and aged in his early twenties.  At the time of the incident he was wearing a blue T-shirt with horizontal stripes and dark coloured shorts.   The woman was not physically injured as a result of the incident.
