Shack and Slum Dwellers International was founded in 1996 to give voice to its members’ priorities for development and to share their innovative solutions to the myriad problems of poverty with their peers across the globe. SDI significantly improves the quality of its members lives, often increasing their income. SDI projects in partnership with government (like house-building in South Africa) offer savings of up to 40%. SDI have a presence in Cambodia, India, Kenya, Namibia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Thailand, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Uganda, Colombia, Indonesia, Malawi, Lesotho, Tanzania, Zambia, Argentina, Brazil and Ghana.
