Dan's Lost Ski Area Explorations

This "retired ski area" (as local bike trail maps call it) was closed for skiing in the late 1990's due to size and lack of interest (being right next to the much larger Waterville Valley Ski Area), however the mountain's double chair still operates today for lift served mountain biking. I attempted to go mountain biking there in August of 2011, but the lift had shut down early that day due to rain. Most of the trails from this smaller (500' vertical) remain maintained for the mountain bike operation, but the narrower woods trails on the north side of the ski area appear to have fallen victim to a housing development. Although I didn't ride it, from what I could gather from the trail map it appeared that there weren't too many true downhill runs here (it was a small ski area after all), though it does look like an excellent starting point for Waterville's extensive cross-country mountain bike trails. For a more "authentic" downhill experience, I'd probably recommend Highland Mountain (itself a former/reopened lost ski area!)
