St Andrews Footbridge, Glasgow Green
This is a very elegant example of a suspension bridge, where a flat walkway is suspended from a pair of strong chains. This bridge is made entirely of wrought iron and iron castings. The two gateways on either riverbank have beautiful Corinthian columns which support the chains. The bridge was designed by the engineer Neil Robson and was built in 1855. The span of the bridge is over 220 feet.
There are several other suspension bridges crossing the River Clyde, such as the bridge at South Portland Street, and the famous Erskine Bridge.
