St. George, Clarendon Place
Category: Public Sculpture
This sculpture depicts St George Slaying The Dragon, the legend about the patron saint of England. The statue was given to the City Of Glasgow by the Co-Operative Wholesale Society, and sited at this spot in 1988. It was made sometime in the late 19th Century, and it looks like it once stood on a building, judging by the way the blocks of stone have been joined together. At night, the statue is illuminated, and looks even more dramatic.
