The wire products at Isandi are mostly from Streetwires in Cape Town, a young and dynamic company with more than 130 wire artists – a pioneer company in Southern Africa with respect to product development, social consciousness and training. Streetwires started in 2000 with 4 employees – and took up the challenge of transforming waht is the most common amongs wire artist; street trade, to be a part of the formal economy, in addition to aim fearlessly at the export markets. It is impressive to see what Streetwires has achieved in export volume, taking into account that their products are easily mass copied in countries with far less production and wage costs. The key to this success is the combination of innovative and progressive product development and that the products from Streetwires still have the signature of the HAND MADE CRAFT.
