Sun Life Building
Category: Historic Building/Architectural Interest
Corner Of West George Street & Renfield Street
This was once the offices of the Sun Life company and was built in 1894 by William Leiper. It is made in red sandstone, and features several sculptural panels by William Birnie Rhind (1853-1933). This one shows two angelic figures holding a shield with a harp. This is the emblem of Ireland, and the other panels on the corner of the building show the emblems of Scotland, England and Wales. There are also figures representing Night and Day, which have become badly eroded.
