The Highlands
Category: Reopened or "Partially" Lost Ski Areas
Although this area is still closed to skiing, downhill lift served mountain biking has been offered on the old ski trails since 2006. They even renovated the ski area's old summit triple chair and retrofitted it to fit mountain bikes! Unsure if downhill skiing offerings are in the works for the future. In the meantime, check out the mountain's current website here.
**July 2008/November 2010**
Trails: The former main ski slope has been converted into an AWESOME looking downhill mountain biking run, complete with large banked corners. More bike trails exist in the woods and along the former ski trails.
Lifts: The triple chair now spins once again. An small old abandoned poma or T-bar from an unknown manufacturer sits dormant near the base area.
Facilities: The base lodge has been heavily renovated and restored for the downhill mountain biking operation.
Accessibility: It's open to the public for downhill mountain biking on the weekends during the warmer months. Unsure about how OK it would be to hike it/check it out during the week...
**February 2005**
Trails: Growing in, but not that quickly.
Lifts: Triple chair still there and visible from the parking lot, rusting away into the new growth.
Facilities: Base lodge quite dilapidated looking and posted.
Accessibility: Area appeared to be posted, so I only observed the area from the parking lot.
