A complex and monumental architectural structure with more than 400 rooms, yards and courtyards, the palace is surrounded by the Parma stream, the piazza and the wonderful, recently restored French-style garden. Formerly inhabited by Maria Louisa of Austria, and the Sanseverino, Farnese and Bourbon families, it today houses temporary exhibitions and cultural events. The apartments of the Duke and Duchess and the Sala Grande (Great Hall) are fascinating, as are the neoclassical Chapel of San Liborio, with canvases by renowned artists and the Serassi organ (used during the annual Concert Season), the new apartment of Duke Ferdinand and the Astronomical Observatory.
