Three men arrested over police assault, Redlynch

Smithfield Detectives have arrested and charged three men in relation to the serious assault of a police officer and damage to a taxi on Sunday April 4. It is alleged that the men had used an improvised weapon to shoot projectiles at a taxi which caused a rock to smash through a side window and enter the cabin. The offenders then allegedly targeted an attending police vehicle and threw a rock which smashed the side window and injured the officer driving the vehicle. Two Redlynch men, aged 18, and a 20-year-old Edge Hill man were each charged with assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and in company and two charges of wilful damage. The 20-year-old man was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, dangerous conduct with a weapon and possession of a weapon whilst under the influence of liquor. The three are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 28.
