Treblinka became operational in July of 1942. The camp was fitted with two buildings which had gas chambers in which carbon monoxide gas was used to murder people. Up to 1.4 million people were killed in which at least 700,000 were Jewish. The camp was camouflaged as a train station when in reality, it was a camp dedicated to the extermination of Jews. In August of 1943, extermination at the camp was ceased.
