Tsunomine Mountain Hike - Entrance

Life in Tokushima

This is a great little hike, with great views most of the way up. Expect about an hour and a quarter for one way.

From the Awa Tachibana train station, walk north-east, parallel the train tracks (towards tokushima) for a minute or two, until you see the big red gate at the railroad crossing. Cross here, and follow the main road (use your judgement here) all the way to the top of the mountain. At the bottom, it is actually a road, but it quickly changes to a gravel road, then to a concrete path, and finally to a bunch of stone stairs.

At the top is the tsunomine shrine complex, which is kind of nice, but you will then see that you could have driven up a different side, and taken a chair lift up the remainder. Don't worry about that, I won't even tell you how to do it. The hike is worth it, and the hike back down is quite easy.
