Corner Of West George Street & Hope Street
This soaring office building was designed by John A. Campbell (1859-1909) and built in 1903. On a building of such a grand scale it can sometimes be easy to miss details such as these carvings. Over the doorway on West George Street you can see this mysterious head of a man wearing a blindfold. You can also see these unusual female figures with wings, a mythical creature called a harpy. In Greek mythology, a harpy is a nasty, greedy monster.
