Since being established in 1976, the University of Arizona Cancer Center has worked to prevent and cure cancer.

The UA Cancer Center is one of 40 centers in the nation and the only one headquartered in and serving the entire state of Arizona that has been designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the NCI’s highest ranking. That designation is reserved for centers focusing on patient care as well as basic and clinical research, prevention, education, outreach and training.

The UA Cancer Center is one of only five centers in the nation with an NCI Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant for gastrointestinal cancers and it is also one of five centers in the nation with a SPORE for lymphatic cancers.

The UA Cancer Center is a leader in research on women’s cancers (breast, ovarian), men’s cancers (prostate), gastrointestinal cancers (colon, pancreas), lymphoma and skin cancers and is home to one of the largest Cancer Prevention and Control Programs among the nation’s comprehensive cancer centers, with leading prevention research in breast, colon, lung, prostate and skin cancers.

The UA Cancer Center operates two primary research sites: one at The University of Arizona in Tucson and the other in Scottsdale. It also has more than a dozen research and education offices throughout the state and affiliate sites in Mexico and Colorado. The Cancer Center’s 60 research labs and 300 nationally and internationally renowned physician and scientist members work to bring the power of research to cancer prevention and treatment through a direct link between the latest research discoveries and patient care.

University of Arizona Medical Center (UAMC) is the UA Cancer Center’s clinical affiliate in Tucson. Our patients are treated in a multidisciplinary clinic by a team of physicians and health care professionals who are experts in their specialties. Our cross-discipline approach means our patients get the best treatment possible: treatment tailored to them.

Twenty-eight UA Cancer Center physicians were included in the 2007-08 Best Doctors in America database.

This community outpatient clinic located in Northwest Tucson serves all patients needing oncology and hematology services, both patients of UMC physicians and community doctors.
