Utica FFA chapter addressed the issue of childhood obesity by creating “Wild Wellness Walkways†. The project built walking trails or paths through the landscaping in and around the school buildings in order to help promote health and fitness in addition to allowing school students and community member to enjoy the splendor of nature’s beauty. The FFA members created identification tags for all plantings at each site in to ensure that all visitors could easily identify the flora and fauna of the areas. Additionally, FFA members trained school staff on how to utilize lesson plans from Project Wild, Project WET and Project Learning Tree to enhance the education of science concepts in classrooms in relation to horticulture.
