The river shaped the valley like an artist carves a sculpture. Many layers of soil and dirt are missing, so things like dinosaur bones, coal and oil are much closer to the surface. It is very hot in the valley because the wind blows straight over it. Splash parks and fountains help make the heat more bearable.
