One area that was able to hold up a small resistance was Van. When the Turkish army came to Van, they were quietly making ready to fight back. So when an Armenian woman was attacked by a Turkish office, and two Armenian men died trying to help her, the Armenian in Van were ready to fight back. They held the Turkish army off until May 6. However, they did so at a cost. 55,000 civilians were dead by the time the Russians came to their aid.
