Very strange vague existing signs

There are signs through here that say "Bicycles use sidewalk" or something to the effect. As far as I know I am not legally obliged to do so, and the roadway is not unsafe. I think someone put these up in a misguided attempt to make trail users feel better about the detour. All they do is give the driver who goes too fast and hits me an excuse in court. Please remove them - you might sve my life or limb!
