Wamogo Regional High School FFA

The Wamogo Regional agriculture department increased participation and awareness about solid waste reduction practices and the importance of composting to reduce the amount of landfill usage at the Barkhamsteawd-New Hartford Landfilld nearby by implementing a Community Compost program.  FFA members conducted research on the amount of waste being produced by their school cafeteria and found that the high school spent approximately $600 per week per dumpster for waste removal.  The FFA members conducted monthly outreach activities with local elementary school students to educate them about environmental issue related to recycling and composting and they also used their FFA garden to hold community gardening and composting days for educating the community at-large.
