White's Mountain
Category: Abandoned Ski Areas
**July 2010**
Trails: Same as previous visit.
Lifts: I climbed the mountain via the former liftline, and, while the lift has been almost completely removed, there are a few remnants to be found. About halfway up is a large, collapsed wooden frame, which I originally thought may have been a midway unloading station (the hill gets quite steep just beyond this point), but during my descent, I found another one of these wooden frames nearer the bottom of the liftline. This means that the lift was either a low-to-the-ground wooden single chair similar to the one at Thorn Mountain in NH. Either that, or it was a more "modern" metal chair that just happened to have two midway unload stations.
Facilities: Same as previous visit, though that new Forest Service building they're constructing is coming along nicely.
Accessibility: Same as previous visit. It's on public Forest Service land and completely hikeable (though I'd avoid the construction at the base as a courtesy/safety precaution). The hike up the liftline is also quite steep, especially near the top so wear good hiking boots. An OHV trail leads directly to the top of the ski area as well, if you have a vehicle capable of those kinds of roads.
**May 2010**
Trails: Grown in somewhat, but still mostly discernible. Unsure how long this place has been closed for, but I do know that this was the FIRST ski area to open up in the Lake Tahoe Basin!
Lifts: Found a large concrete pad for a lift near the bottom of the slope, but didn't explore that extensively farther up.
Facilities: A few old, decrepit Forest Service buildings were literally torn down a week before I explored here. Most likely, they were associated with this ski area before they were used by the Forest Service.
Accessibility: Hiking trails criss-cross the old ski area, which appears to be entirely on public Forest Service land.
