Lead mining town on which Snowfield is based. Haarlem Mill, in the I5th Century was a waulk mill for fulling cloth and in 1780 a cotton spinning mill. Samuel and Elizabeth Evans lived in a cottage here. Elizabeth, a lay preacher in the Methodist Church, was George Eliot's aunt and is buried in the parish churchyard.
