Yaso is dedicated to the discovery and development of products to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections and sexually transmitted HIV. Our current research is in the field of microbicides.
Microbicides refers to a range of different products that share one common characteristic: the ability to prevent the sexual transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) when applied topically. A microbicide could be produced in many forms, including gels, creams, suppositories, films or as a sponge or ring that releases the active ingredient over time.
Our lead product under development is called SAMMA which is a unique derivative of mandelic acid. SAMMA has passed all safety testing to date. In vitro studies indicate SAMMA prevents infection by blocking binding and entry of the virus or bacteria into host cells.
