Youths charged over school incident, Woree: Five youths have been charged following an incident at a Woree school late on Thursday night. Police were conducting foot patrols of the school complex shortly before 11pm when they allegedly located a number of youths who subsequently fled. Five of the youths were detained and investigations commenced into recent graffiti offences. Three females aged from 14 to 15 and two males aged 15 and 16 were charged with trespassing on an educational institution and one of the 15-year-old females was also charged with obstructing Police. The youths will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992. Investigations are continuing into the graffiti offences.
Residents and students are reminded that trespassing on educational facilities is an offence. Police will be conducting targeted patrols of schools during the holiday period in an effort to reduce the incidence of unlawful activity. A number of local schools have been identified as having sustained damage during holiday periods in recent years. Police are asking residents who live near or around schools to report any suspicious activities occurring outside normal school hours.
