The Ysbyty Estate is a traditional upland estate of approximately 20,000 acres within the boundary of the Snowdonia National Park, and contains part of the Migneint SSSI, which is a candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC). The upland landscape is characterised by remote, wild open hill country and forms the majority of the catchment area of the Upper Conwy. The lower land is enclosed with drystone walls, hedges and woodland, in which stone-built farmhouses, cottages and farm buildings form important landscape features. There are 51 tenant farms on the estate, which are managed in accordance with the Trust's principles of supporting small-scale mixed farming, appropriate diversification activities and of retaining important aspects of the local landscape and culture. The village of Ysbyty Ifan is the heart of the estate, and forms a focus for interpretation and other heritage-based regeneration projects. In addition, there are a number of listed buildings and important archaeological sites on the estate, including Ty'n y Coed Uchaf and Ty Mawr Wybrnant, both open to the public.
