Zen Garden
Category: Park/public space
St Mungo Museum, Cathedral Square.
This Zen Garden was designed and made by Yasutaro Tanaka in 1993. It is not like a British garden, with flowers, trees and lawns. This Buddhist garden is mostly gravel, raked into harmonious shapes and dotted with rocks and moss. The gravel symbolises the sea, the rocks symbolise mountains and the grassy parts represent land. The effect helps the viewer feel peaceful and meditative.
