University buildings (~750,000 sq ft) are heated by hot water or steam distributed via an underground network of insulated pipes. Currently heat is generated by burning natural gas, but BHSU is considering using waste wood from the vast Black Hills Forest as fuel both to become carbon-neutral and to cut costs very substantially.
