St. Augustine, FL (Day 14)
Entertainment
We stopped here after looking at the map and seeing a couple of campgrounds. However, all campgrounds were full and all hotels on the island were full. Long story...we ended up driving to Jacksonville, then up to Fernandina Island, then back to Jacksonville and finally found a hotel near the airport around 11pm. After ending up in Jacksonville, we decided to come back to St. Augustine to stay the night. I guess the surfing was too good to pass up.
Saint Augustine, FL
St. Augustine is the oldest town in the United States. It was founded 44 years before Jamestown. The downtown was really neat with little shops all over the place.
What a nice view. Can't believe that the water is 85 degrees even with those enormous clouds.
"I love this place!"
Here is a view of the Castillo de San Marcos, a naval fort that protected the city from intruders.
The oldest drugstore in the U.S.
